Top 5 Disney Movie Openings and Endings

Theres so many to choose from, am i right? But these 5 are my top favorite.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Holy schnitzel! Im pretty sure my jaw was on the theatre floor during the opening number of this movie. Its one of Disney's most underrated, but one of my absolute favorites. The storyline is so inspiring and I love the character of the gypsy-minstrel, Clopin. The note he hits at the end of the opening song is incredi-friggin-awesome.

Mary Poppins
I know, I know...but this movie is a classic and ever since I was a little Vinnie, Ive always gotten choked up when the family goes and flys their kites at the end. Its movie magic, people.

Pocahontas
Say what you will, but this is one of my favorite Disney movies ever. Its a tad on the serious side; but the music, animation, story and ending are on point. When Poca runs to the top of the rock and and waves "I love you" to John Smith, I just die. And, her hair blowing in her face all gorgeous and shit! Man, it just makes you wanna be an indian princess, dont it? no?

Hercules
This movie killed for five reasons: The Muses. These sassy, soulful characters, with voice talents from some incredible broadway divas, were a long overdue addition to a Disney film. Again, I love their hair. I wish I had a Hercules coloring book.

The Lion King
The opening is a given, its probably the best opening in Disney history. But, the ending was also pretty rad-i-cal. I saw this movie about 6 times in the theatre, I had just come back home from working at Disney and I was still under their spell. But still, anyone who doesnt like this movie is a straight-up asshole.

It's a fat, fat, fat, fat world!

Though my instincts are to send this heavenly marriage a gift, I must stop myself and pray for guidance from Michelle Obama.

Frug Girl vs Beyonce: A dance to the death!

I need your help deciding who's the fiercest bitch on the boards. Frug Girl performing "The Rich Man's Frug" from Sweet Charity or Beyonce performing her version of the Frug in "Get me Bodied" from, well....real life.

Skip to 1:30 in the following to get down to bizness.

Hometown boy makes good....furniture!

Syracuse native Thom Felicia is an Interior Designer best known for being part of the "Fab 5" on the Bravo show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. He had such a funny personality on that show and is now a much sought after Interior Designer. He grew up just blocks away from where my parents live outside of the Sedgwick area and his mom and mine went to school together (cheeky :). Anyhoo, check out his NEW FURNITURE COLLECTION HERE where each piece is named after a particular area or street in Syracuse! Super cool!

I like the dark and handsome guys with the skinny little ties, dressing mod, looking outta sight!

can you even begin to imagine how fucking awesome it must have been to be one of the dancers in this number? Though im not regularly a fan of kate Hudson, she nails it.

Kitchen Table Confessions

I am completely obsessed with Annette Bening.

She is by far my favorite actress, it is necessary for me to tell you that Im in love with her. From The Grifters and American Beauty to my two favorites: Running with Scissors and The Women, she is incredible. Her performance in Running with Scissors is like full penetration to your soul. If you havent seen it, I suggest it highly. Better yet, read the memoir by Augusten Burroughs first, then be amazed at how she brings the character of his crazy, poet mother to life. She recently has become the inspiration for something I got brewing on the creative stove.

Mustache of the day

A true original. Man, how awesome it must have been to be a friend of Dali. Id totally share a grape soda with him and not even worry about backwash.

Just Wonderin'

Whatever happened to Priscilla Pointer who played Sue Snell's mother in Carrie, along with everyone else's mother in the 80's?

The Art of Drew Struzan

You've all seen it and you all love it. Drew Struzan was the artistic genius behind all the best movie posters of the 80's. His career continues today but with all the photoshop how-dee-do, no one appreciates the art of a hand painted movie poster anymore. Please click here and go look at his incredible portfolio of work. Its making me drool into my oat bran. The poster for The Goonies is my fave!

Drink with me. Talk with me.

This movie freaks me out more now than when I was a child. Still cant get over the fact that this is Tim Curry (well, besides his voice of course)

Mustache of the day

Somebody give this guy a trophy!

RENT!!

My bestie Capri surprised me on Christmas with a ticket to see the new Syracuse Stage produsction of Rent and to get back in the mood Ive been listening to both the broadway and movie cds (basically the same, but so much to love about both)
Here are some awesome vids of some of my favotite scenes from the 10 year anniversary broadway concert, with some killer performances by the always reliable Idina Menzel, Jesse L Martin and Adam Pascal. I hope I dont ball my eyes out at the finale, but im sure i will, cause I always do, its too powerful. Theres only now, theres only here...well, you know the drill. Live it.

Top 5 Tinas!

ChrisTINA Crawford. Well, not really the real Tina crawford but the two doughy toe-heads that played her in the immortal comedy "Mommie Dearest" If you cant quote at least 5 lines from this movie, skip ahead to the next Tina (whom you probably wont appreciate either) I so wish I could have found a pick pf older Tina when shes doing laundry with Moms Dearest and is wearing the do-rag. Dont know why thats always stuck with me.

Tina Turner. Because shes a dang-dong legend thats why!!!! I was so happy to see her in concert about 12 years ago and she was like 102 THEN, and brought down the house. The following clip is 9 minutes of sweat, hair and briliiance, Its my new "Nam-myoho-renge-kyo"

Tiny Tina. EVERYONE has seen or heard of Tiny Tina. Some strange, small version of this sideshow "freak" has been making the State Fair rounds for years. I remember paying a quarter or some shit to see her in high school. The posters promise this 2ft tall smaller than a dog woman, and you go in and there she is, not quite as small as 2ft, sitting there watching soap operas, eating Funyuns and sweating like a pig-let. Everyone just stands around and looks at her for a minute and leaves. It was fab! So like I said, some "Tina" is till touring with the fairs, maybe its her daughter or grand-daughter. Ah, who cares, enough of this.

Tina Fey. Dont ya kinda wish you were her bestie and could spend the day in bed with her watching old Three Stooges shorts and eating Little Debbie Christmas tree cakes? I swear I could watch "Baby Mama" 50 more times and STILL laugh at every joke.

Tina Yothers. C'mon she was fug personified and played second banana, even to cute little Andy. I found this pic comparing her to Ma Gorg and couldnt help myself from reposting.
